April  Additions

I decided it's time to add whistle stands to my line.  My theme is based on the mythical Loch Ness "Monster".   My Nessies aren't monsters but helpful whistle holders.  Since documented photographs of the creature aren't very plentiful I thought to take a few guesses and share them with friends. They have gotten good reviews, so why not sell a few?  My first one is displayed in various places on my Whistle Pictures page.

Here is one that I recently completed and sold to Liz. Needless to say I named her Liz Nessie.  The wood is juniper legally gathered.  Some conical whistles do not fit onto these3/8" dowels, but Liz has none so it's OK.

Liz sent me some photos when she got the whistle stand. I got her permission to use them because they are really good artistic composition:  with banjowith autoharpwith "Yeti" (draw your own conclusions about  the two mysterious creatures lying together),  with quilt

This one is juniper mounted on an old rough sawn spruce plank that I did some shaping to look vaguely like waves.  Yes you guessed: Loch Ness. The spindles are retired artist brush handles .

I  have been using this one for a few years. It's of sycamore I got from a neighbor when he trimmed his trees. My conical whistles don't fit the 3/8"dowels   sycamoreoutsm.jpg (8884 bytes)   Details:  one two

I have a great stand Vinny  made me. It turns like a lazy susan.

These stands are one of a kind sculptures and will never be duplicated. Nessie will continue to be looking for an identity and a place to stay.

December Decisions

I decided a new email connection is needed:  The old one contact will still function for a time, but I'd prefer orders go to the new one. hoover.mc@gmail.com

All orders that still come in this month will be taken, but some may not be filled till January 2008.

We are working on a news letter that will be sent monthly.  It will be a  journal of what's happening at Hoover Whistles and sent to subscribers with the option of unsubscribing.  If you aren't on the initial list and care to be let me know at hoover.mc@gmail.com

Merry Christmas to all!

Mack

It's November!

Here is Greenpiece my ecological whistle. Though it's not green it is made from regenerable resources. The mouthpiece is from juniper and the barrel is recycled Yellow Pages held together with shellac a natural  and organic resin dissolved in ethanol which everyone knows is earth friendly.

How does it sound you ask.  It is ecologically sound.  And the volume:  it speaks volumes for conservation.

It is a true conservation conversation piece.

It's in the key of C for, you know,   Conservation.

September 07 update

Wood whistles are available in A and Bb and I've begun to do some wood D barrels again that work with standard Whitecaps and Blacktops; and I have a "tabor" pipe in low G. There are photos and some details on Whistle Pictures page.

I have some new instruments on Re-instruments page.

Tom Wilson has a great new CD which I highly recommend. You can sample and purchase it at CDBaby

July 07 update

Wood Whistles

Production is now including  some   other keys. Contact Mack for availability.

January 2007

Production on the wooden Hoover low G is proceeding and for the time being, they will continue to be only available in the key of G.

I've set the price at $150. Due to the nature of wood whistles, I can't offer a lifetime unconditional guarantee as with the rest of my whistle line. There will be a $125 refund on returns for one month after purchase. Any whistles returned after one month will be repaired or replaced at the purchaser's expense.

The woods I will be using are ones that grow here in western Colorado. We have a good variety of fruit and nut woods, as well as some beautiful domestic shade trees. I have a friend that acquires and seasons local woods. He has supplied me with peach, apricot, pear, apple, cherry, walnut, and maple to name a few.

Wood whistles are available with Blacktop, Whitecap or a solid wood mouthpiece. Also, you can order a whistle with different woods for the mouthpiece and for the barrel.

Changes in Production

Some of the Hoover line has been dropped effective January 1, 2007. Traditional and narrow bore brass tunable D will be the ONLY all-brass whistles available after that date.

Some of the PVC and CPVC whistles will also be eliminated. While every musical key will still be available, not all keys will be available in either material. As of January 1st, Mack will make some keys only in one or the other tubing material as he judges best for the specific whistle job. Please contact him for further information on available combinations of keys and plastic tubing material.
