Rocky Mountain Players

I thought it appropriate to add a page about the fun and  fellowship those of us in these parts  are having because of whistles. We have had some invaders too, but we welcome them, and all comers, especially our adopted. Beth (Avanutria), Ben (Tinker), Cal (Tubafor), Randy Thomas (Tomcat),and Colin (Whistle envy). Their  pictures appear on the Praise Whistlers and Poems pages, except for Randy. I'm searching for a picture of him.

The resident members are scattered through Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado.

Vinny is an honorary member who has yet to visit the Rockies, but I've been to his place and adopted him.

The one picture that gets the most requests is "The Hoover Line" So here it is to kick off this new page:

Brian Lee on the Hoover D Uilleannes, Mack on floor model low D, and Wyobadger* on the Contra-Bass D

This happened during our very first get together. Then we were known as the Rocky Mountain Boys, but there became dissention in the ranks, so we clambered for a fitting name, and I arbitrarily named us "Players". Even though that discriminates against such as I. It's all in good clean fun!

*Here's a bit about Wyobadger.   He's Tom Wilson a music teacher in Lander Wyoming and master of lots of instruments. He has a couple of CD's which I highly recommend and a very unique internet hangout. You can sample and buy his CD at CDBaby

So this is a start.
It will be  a continuing saga.
Input welcome and rewarded.

December 3, 2005 these two beautiful whistlers visited and became the newest official Rocky Mountain Players. It is Lisa's second time, but no picture for that visit.

Kitty Robbins is a phenomenal guitar player and Mack a fair   mandolin player. Kitty is also very good on whistles!

Mack tooting and Lisa Danforth sympathizing. She is a whistler supreme and excellent on guitar.

She finally got to lay claim to the whistle case she helped design. You can see a bit if it lower right with the plaid exterior and plum lining.

March 2005. - Mark Bell came the weekend of Palm Sunday and we enjoyed talking whistles, making whistles and playing mandolins.  Mark left with some free whistles one of which (CPVC low E) he helped make.

Here's also a link to a page on Mark's excellent web site, Whistle and Squeak, which has more pictures and info about Mark's whistle making adventure. http://www.geocities.com/whistleandsqueak/hoover.html

Ron Jarvis.sm.JPG (6454 bytes)

Ron hasn't visited my shop yet, but because of his reverence for the Rockies and whistles from here I have made him an honorary Rocky Mountain Player!

"....I love your state - just returned from spending a week with my twin brother near Durango. He drove me throughout southwestern CO, four corners, Monument Valley and over to Creede and Lake City on a photo shoot.

I discovered the whistle in May and I have been taking lessons from a past Irish National Champion since. On the 14th of this month I'll be introducing the whistle into my dulcimer program. I have some ambitious performance goals, but at least I still have goals at 62...Great work you do and thank you, again. Hope we can meet some day.                                                     Warm regards,      Ron

he's the 2007  Kansas state champion hammered dulcimer player.   http://www.fidpick.org/    We'll get some sound bites soon. And more photos, too, I hope!

Skipole G's

Beth and Brian are playing "The Traveler" on these two whistles.

A little "pole-ish"  humor.

There are more pictures of the skipole walking stick on this link to the Whistles Pictures page.

This Rocky Mountain Boy and his bride took a drive to take in the colors at the end of September. Joan is from New England and it's hard to impress her with Colorado colors, but she was this year.  The pictures don't really do them justice. I don't ever remember them being so vivid.
